Euthanasia - Dr. Bernhard Pukay

Pamela Tanner's close friend and Veterinarian is Dr. Bernhard Pukay. Dr. Pukay is unique in his approach to all of his clients. Not only is he an intuitive Doctor, but he also exudes the compassion, warmth and whole hearted care that is paramount in treating and caring for all creatures who cannot speak for themselves. The way in which Dr. Pukay connects and understands instinctively what is going on with his patients, is truly a blessing to witness. Dr. Pukay is very skilled and is incredibly passionate about his life's work. It has been Pamela Tanner's honor to have such a unique relationship and connection with such a unique Veterinarian. Dr. Pukay is a gentleman and treats all of his clients and their owners with the utmost respect.

Dr. Pukay’s remarkable career began as a grade 5 elementary school teacher before taking a dramatic turn to practice veterinary medicine. He began his veterinary career in the outback of Antigonish, Nova Scotia, where, in his own words “my adventures rivaled those of James Harriot.” He has published several research articles and chapters in the veterinary literature, specifically on veterinary dermatology and small animal nutrition. He is active in clinical research and lectures extensively to veterinarians on Dermatology as well as Practice Management in Canada, the United States, Australia, Central America, and Japan.
Dr. Pukay was Executive Producer, Co-director and Host of the popular television series, PET CONNECTION, a one-half hour television show televised world-wide on The Discovery Channel’s Animal Planet. He also writes a syndicated column on Pet Care for the Canwest and Southam Group of newspapers.
Dr. Pukay has spent much of his long and distinguished veterinary career with Alta Vista and Bayview Animal Hospitals. As a 30+-year veteran of the practice, he leads as President and Chief Executive Officer, overseeing a 25-veterinarian specialty, emergency and small animal general practice. He also operates a Dermatology Referral Service through the Alta Vista Animal Hospital location. Dr. Pukay enjoys being able to express his passionate love of both medicine and animals, helping people by helping their pets.
He and his wife, Eva, his high school sweetheart, have shared their life with all kinds of pets, from dogs and cats, to horses, snakes, birds, chinchillas, nutria, rabbits, and pocket pets such as rats, guinea pigs, hamsters, etc. He is the very proud father of two incredible boys, Michael and Greg, from whom he continues to learn (with delight) on a daily basis.
